Dr. Marilynn Acker, Optometrist
Dr. Acker is a graduate of the New England College of Optometry in Boston, where she was a member of the honor society. She did clinical rotations in pediatrics at Dimmock Community Health Center, geriatrics at Tewksbury Hospital, and general optometry at Public Health Hospital in Brighton.
Prior to optometry training, she earned her B.S. in psychology and pre-med from Denison University in Ohio. While there, she was elected to Mortar Board. Her high school diploma was from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, Massachusetts. She was a boarding student from rural New York State and received the honor of a National Merit Scholarship.
Since becoming an optometrist, Dr. Acker has continued her education. When therapeutic licensure became an option for optometrists in 1990, she was one of the first in the state to be granted this privilege. The American Board of Optometry began a new credentialing process in 2012, and Dr. Acker was one of the first to become a diplomate of the ABO, passing a rigorous exam in 2013 and continuing to maintain her credentials through a maintenance of certification educational program.
Dr. Acker is a member of the American Optometric Association, the New Hampshire Optometric Association, and is co-chair of the regional optometric organization.
In the community, Dr. Acker is a charter member of the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce. She is also very active in the Lions Club and the Monadnock Chorus.
Dr. Benjamin Choiniere, Optometrist
Dr. Choiniere grew up in Attleboro, Massachusetts. He entered college at Franklin Pierce University in 2016, where he majored in Health Sciences. It was during this time that he decided to pursue optometry as a career. He also fell in love with the Monadnock region and the sense of community the area offers. As an avid hiker and outdoorsman, he has enjoyed dozens of hiking trips on Mount Monadnock and the surrounding peaks, as well as fishing many of the local lakes.
While at Franklin Pierce he was part of the men’s rugby team as well as the Franklin Pierce and Town of Rindge fire departments. Working in the fire service allowed him to meet many members of the community and make lasting friendships.
After graduating from Franklin Pierce in 2020, he started his optometric education at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science in Worcester, Massachusetts. Upon graduating in May 2024, he was eager to return to Southern New Hampshire and provide for the eye care needs of the greater Jaffrey area. During his schooling, Dr. Choiniere worked with some of the newest technology in retinal imaging to treat and manage ocular disease. His goal is to incorporate cutting edge technological advancements into routine eye care to better detect and manage various ocular pathology.
While currently residing in central Massachusetts, Dr. Choiniere is getting married in October of 2024 and hopes he and his wife can relocate to Southern New Hampshire in the coming months.
